Events

We conduct events around design methods and web development. We invite experienced professionals from the world over to Singapore to share best practices and techniques and give the local design community an opportunity to network and grow.

Past Events

  • Masterclass in SharePoint collaboration & governance

We had a full house for this 1-Day Masterclass in Sharepoint Collaboration and Governance by Michael Sampson. This event was jointly organised by PebbleRoad and ToThePoint. The event was held on 5th Nov 2009 at the Hyatt in Singapore.

Michael covered a wide range of subjects from the basics of collaboration to evaluating Sharepoint as a viable collaboration tool to understanding different user adoption strategies.

The focus of Michael’s talk was his plead that it takes more than just installing Sharepoint (or any other collaboration tool) to make collaboration a success in the organisation. His idea was that we have to go beyond doing things to ‘avoid failure’ and start looking at strategies that ‘chase successes’.

Michael’s talk was a mix of conceptual briefings and specific case studies. The audience liked this sequence because it gave them the opportunity to place the concept in their own contexts.

Thank you Michael for coming ‘up’ from New Zealand to share your views and expertise.

  • DOM Scripting and Ajax Workshop with Christian Heilmann

Christian Heilmann's workshop was a blast. We were treated to robust real-word scripts, designed for accessibility and easy maintenance, for use on heavily-accessed websites like Yahoo!. All of this mixed with his quirky humour ("Java is to JavaScript is like car is to carpet!") which kept things lively.

While the hands-on coding exercises were tough for the less-experienced, the experienced ones were all peering with full concentration deep into their laptop screens, adding a JavaScript event handler here or creating a text node there.

The 2 days blew by in a flash, leaving us with a solid foundation to go further into solid DOM scripting and Ajax.

Thanks to Chris who came all the way over from the UK and has to rush over to Scotland to do a presentation (in kilts), and thanks to all who attended. Now, let's see better websites backed up with better scripts!

  • CSS Workshop with Russ Weakley

Russ Weakley's workshop turned out great. Not so much because of the lush, resort-like atmosphere of the place (it certainly helped), but because there was just so much to learn from Russ. His self-deprecating style of humour and his excellent analogies certainly made things even more interesting and enjoyable, despite the technical nature of the content.

All those we spoke to left the workshop very happy. Sure, a few were a little stressed, suddenly realising how much more there was to the world of CSS, but that is probably a good kind of stress.

A big "thank you" to Russ for agreeing to come over to Singapore do this workshop, and to everyone for your support and participation.

We hope that this workshop will help raise the level of web design and CSS competency in Singapore.
