The goal of the website was to give Singapore National Service (NS) pre-enlistees and their parents a place to go to get details on NS and on the various activities that take place during NS. Not just any kind of details, but vivid and frank details with photos, videos, games and interactive elements on how to get ready for NS.
This project won the 1st prize for Mindef Pride Day 2008, as well as a Gold award for the National IQC Convention 2008.
As with all of our projects we started the project with a frank discussion with project sponsors on their reasons and expectations. We then planned extensive interview sessions with pre-enlistees, their parents and even with recruits who recently went through their pre-enlistment exercise. We did this to understand fears, uncertainties and doubts that pre-enlistees and their parents had about NS.
We did extensive data gathering which included going through video archives of NS through the ages, going down to camps and meeting with the commanders and ploughing through forms and communications sent out during the period. None of this could have been possible without the support and guidance from the client’s team.
The analysis phase was the most challenging. We wanted to find a solution that would organize all the information we collected and present it in a manner that would resonate with the target audience.
When we found that there were missing pieces, like missing videos, we went ahead and just got it done. We snapped over 2000 photos and shot over 10 hours of footage.
Once we zoned into a strategy we went straight ahead with the development which included editing videos, creating games and interactive elements, XHTML coding and testing and finally copywriting. The interactive elements were done by the fine folks over at Logical Steps.
It was a grueling project, but we managed to pull it off on time.
The website launched on 28 May 2008.
