Goal

The goal of the redesign of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) was to enhance the tax portal to make it easy for taxpayers to understand their tax obligations and responsibilities and learn what to do and what to expect during the tax paying periods.

What we did

  • Design research
  • Information architecture
  • Governance

We completely reorganized the information architecture of the website. The previous website was organized according to tax types. This made it difficult, say, foreigners as they cut across many different tax types. We re-organized the website according to tax payer types.

This change meant that all the sections and their articles had to be moved around to suit this new structure. It also meant that all articles had to be re-written to ensure that there is consistency and flow between the articles.

The most challenging part of this project was the extensive discussions with the various departments to get buy-in and their support in the reorganization. We had champions and believers on our side and this made it possible for the idea to get traction.

The website launched on January 2008.
